The image above is a screenshot of a speed test. I conducted this test while writing this message. It shows the details such as the internet provider and the location where the test was performed. At the top, it shows a download speed of 4.76 Mbps. Based on this information, I can say the following:With an internet download speed of 4.76 Mbps,

I won’t be able to watch a 4K video, and even when watching a 1080p video, it may buffer occasionally.

With an internet upload speed of 3.68 Mbps, even during a WhatsApp call, the other party won’t see me clearly, and the video may pause. With this internet speed, I won’t be able to even stream at 720p web TV.

What is Upload and Download speed?

Internet TVs require a high-speed internet connection. You might think, “But my internet is already fast,” but what we’re referring to is the upload speed.

There are two types of internet speeds. Let’s list these speeds, understand their meanings, and then determine which one will serve our purpose.

What is Download speed?

Download speed is actually the internet speed that home users need. In your daily life, you surely watch videos, movies, or listen to music on platforms like YouTube and other social media accounts. You also download files. To do all these activities, you need a reliable Download connection. Watching movies, videos, or listening to music is made possible by receiving and downloading data from the other party to your computer or phone.

What is Upload speed?

If you upload a nice photo to Instagram, it is actually an upload process. Uploading videos produced by YouTubers, TikTokers, and other influencers to their social media accounts is also an upload process.

This is because you are sending or uploading data (file, music, video) from your device to the other party. If you are uploading a video to YouTube and it is taking a long time, you should immediately perform a speed test. Most likely, your Upload speed is very low. Having a high Upload speed will also shorten the video upload time.

How fast of an internet connection do I need for a smooth livestream?

The answer to this question can vary. First, you should ask yourself what quality you want to stream in. You may want to stream in 420p or 4K quality, and based on this quality preference, you can determine whether your internet speed is sufficient for your livestreams.

Let’s say you want to livestream on YouTube at 1080p/60fps. Based on my experience, you would need a minimum internet speed of 18 Mbps. Technically, you might be able to do it with a lower internet speed, but in practice, you would need at least 18 Mbps.

If you want to web tv livestream on both YouTube and Facebook using the same format and settings of 1080p/60fps and 6 Mbps, you can still use the same internet speed.

However, keep in mind that streaming simultaneously on multiple platforms may require additional bandwidth to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted broadcast.

So, you may want to livestream to two or more platforms simultaneously. The value I mentioned earlier indicates that you would need at least twice the internet speed. We say at least twice because during the livestream, you may also need to download a file or upload a file over the internet. To avoid any disruptions during the broadcast, you will need an internet speed that is at least twice as high.

What is the ideal internet speed for Web TV with Youtube?

The ideal internet speed for YouTube and Web TV can vary depending on the desired streaming quality. However, YouTube provides detailed recommendations for connection speeds on their website. Let’s focus on this list, as it contains many key points.

What is the required internet speed for 4K streaming?

The required internet speed for streaming in 4K can be found at the beginning of the list, stated as 3840x2160p/60fps. This value indicates that we will be streaming in 4K resolution and delivering 60 frames per second to the viewers.

For this, YouTube recommends an internet speed of 20,000 – 51,000 Kbps. If you set the “bit” value to 20,000, you will achieve a lower quality 4K stream. However, if you set it to 51,000 Kbps, you will be able to deliver a high-quality 4K web TV stream. The crucial point here is that if you select 51,000 Kbps, you should expect to see minimum values of 50-100 Mbps in your internet speed test results.

‌What is the required internet speed for 1080P full HD streaming?

Once again, according to the YouTube support page, if you are streaming at 1080p/60fps, it is recommended to choose a bitrate in the range of 4,500 – 9,000 Kbps. For such a stream, you should see a minimum of 18-20 Mbps in your speed test results. Theoretically, 5 Mbps might be sufficient, but in practice, we have often experienced that it is not.

For 720p HD streaming, YouTube recommends selecting a bitrate in the range of 3,000 – 6,000 Kbps for 720p/60fps. While theoretically, it may require around 4-5 Mbps, based on our experiences, we have found that a minimum internet upload speed of 12 Mbps is needed for a smooth streaming experience web tv.

Ensuring smooth delivery of livestreams to viewers depends on having a sufficient internet speed.

So, which internet connection should you choose for Web TV?

Internet service providers offer different price-quality options in each country.
